We are Dominican and we have always had the strong purpose of positioning the Port of Rio Haina as a world class multipurpose terminal.

HIT (Haina International Terminals, S.A.S.) was established by a group of businesspeople belonging to the Dominican shipping industry on October 10, 2000.

In 2001 they were awarded the concession for management and operations of the Port of Rio Haina, since then the goal of the company has been the infrastructure modernization and making the operations of this port more efficient in order to reach the international trade standards and position the port at the same level of the other ports of our region.

After the events of September 11, 2001 it was created the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), which became effective on July 2004. Upon meeting the corresponding standards, the Port of Rio Haina obtained the ISPS Certification on January 2006.

In order to strengthen the security management system and the quality of the services provided at the port, HIT promotes the implementation of other relevant standards aimed to ensure an efficient and safe supply chain in favor of customers that uses our easiness.

For these reasons, on May 2007 we obtained the BASC Certification (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce) and on January 2011 we obtained the C-TPAT Certification (Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism).

On September 2012, we were awarded the AEO Certification (Authorized Economic Operator), which made us the first Dominican company holding such certification and on the same month we reached the ISO-9001:2008 Certification, recently updated to the 2015 version, and thus we are the only port in the country with such certification.

1586

Sir Francis Drake disembarked in the mouth of the Haina River and invaded the city of Saint Domingue. It’s the first record of the efficiency of the Haina River to access the city of Santo Domingo.

1953

The President Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina opened the west bank of the Port of Rio Haina to be mainly used as port terminal to export sugar produced at the Haina River sugar mill.

1955

It began the construction of the shipyard and berths on the east bank of the Port of Rio Haina.

1964

Sealand set operations with containers at the West Haina.

1983

It was opened the new containers terminal on the east bank of the Port of Rio Haina.

1990

The Port of Santo Domingo was turned into touristic. Most of the cargo was moved to the Port of Rio Haina. The port infrastructure begins its deterioration.

2000

Haina International Terminals (HIT) was registered and formally established. The main port operators of the country got joined and requested from the Dominican Government the concession of the Port of Rio Haina. HIT provided funds for modernization and adjustment of facilities at the Port of Rio Haina, also for strengthening security and installing new technologies in order to increase the efficiency of the operations at this terminal.

2001

The events of September 11 took place. HIT Rio Haina Port began training its staff for the new world order.

2002

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) amended the Chapter 11 of the International Convention for the Safety of the Life at Sea (SOLAS) and it was created the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS), which became effective on July 2004. HIT began works to adjust the Port of Rio Haina and meet the new standards set forth in such code.

2004

The port welcomed the ISPS auditors who confirmed that the Port met all corresponding requirements to obtain the certification. HIT began its management of the operations at the Port of Rio Haina in stages. The first stage was the customs Inspection Area.

2005

HIT Rio Haina Port assumed the management of operations to receive containerized cargoes. It was installed the new CCTV center serving as reference of vigilance for the Dominican logistics sector. The Port of Rio Haina obtained the ISPS certification (description…).

2006

HIT Rio Haina Port assumed the full management of the operations held at the Port of Rio Haina. HIT obtained the BASC certification (Business Alliance for Secure Commerce).

2008

The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) transfers to HIT Rio Haina Port the full management of both banks of the Port of Rio Haina.

2010

It was completed the implementation of NAVIS SPARCS N4, a terminal operating system with an exemplary Go Live free from any disruption for users and for our customers according to the NAVIS technicians.

2011

HIT Rio Haina Port obtained its C-TPAT certification (Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism). It was restarted the global economy and the Port of Rio Haina reached meaningful growth regarding managed cargo volume.

2012

HIT Rio Haina Port obtained its ISO 9001:2008 Certification to be the first Dominican port with such certification. In addition, HIT was certified as Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), which made us the first company in the country with such certification.

2016

We began the works to accredit the Port with the ISO 14001 certification.

2019

HIT Rio Haina Port acquired two container cranes and performed works to increase the depth of the main container berth to receive and operate vessels up to 4,500 TEUs. It was opened the first and only cold room in the Dominican Republic to perform inspections over perishable goods without interruptions in the cold chain and keeping food safety.
